AJ McLean, one of the members of the popular boy band Backstreet Boys, and his wife Rochelle have decided to separate temporarily after 11 years of marriage, according to a joint statement issued by the couple.

Acknowledging the challenges of marriage, the couple stated that they mutually decided to take time apart to work on themselves and their relationship to build a stronger future. They further added that they plan to reunite and continue nurturing their love for each other and their family. The couple also requested privacy and respect from the public and media during this difficult time.

TMZ was the first to report the news, which comes as a surprise to their fans who had admired the couple’s relationship over the years. AJ McLean and Rochelle got married in December 2011 at the Beverly Hills Hotel and have two daughters together, Elliott and Lyric.

The couple met in 2008 when Rochelle was working as a waitress in Los Angeles, and they went on their first date a year later. In a 2020 interview with PEOPLE, McLean spoke about the challenges he faced during his 20-year struggle with drugs and alcohol, which had nearly derailed his family. He credited his wife and family for giving him the strength and support to overcome his addiction and move towards recovery.

McLean, who is now living a sober life, stated that his family, God, and his recovery had saved his life. The Backstreet Boys singer expressed that he is grateful for his wife and family, and he is currently in a blissful state of mind.

As the couple goes through this challenging phase, their fans and followers are sending them messages of support and love.
